Tammy was feeling helpless down in Fl wondering how she could comfort me when she found out I had cancer. She decided to make me a healing quilt, even though she is burned out from sewing so many quilts in the last 25 years, I believe this one was made with such love and compassion, it shows with every stitch. She started by shopping for material after work on Thursday, July 18th and went to several stores before finding colors and patterns that I was sure to love (purple is my favorite, in case you haven't guessed.) She began cutting out squares that very night. Sewing them together after work on Friday.
Sewing all day Saturday. Then layering all the layers together, the squares, the batting and the backing. Pinned them all together, cut off the excess, sewed all around the edges except for 10 inches. Turned it inside out and stitched closed the opening.
Olive Baptist Church By Sunday she had the quilt almost finished and her friend at church wanted to see it so she took it to church with her. She didn't know I was going to be watching the very same service on the live stream. What a wonderful service it was. I so appreciate the way Dr. Traylor preaches and the worship songs are like listening to a choir of angels. The first song the church sang was 'I have the Victory'. Since I was feeling too poorly to attend my home church, I needed that reminder that I do have the victory even when satan is filling me up with his lies. Pastor preached on John 3:1-10 which is extraordinary because that is my salvation passage. So there Tammy is sitting with my secret quilt and I was looking for them in the congregation when the cameras moved around the auditorium but I never caught a glimpse. When I texted her to tell her I was watching, she made sure the quilt was hidden from view.
After church, she tied the layers together with embroidery floss and then attached the perfect size ladybug buttons randomly among the flowers..
She put it in the mail on Monday and here I am on Wednesday the 24th right before I had to leave for the oncologist appointment to find out results from my PET scan.

I am part of a group at my church that makes "prayer quilts". The ones we make are similar but we hold the center of the quilt together with the old fashioned ties. We display the quilt in the front of the church during the service and the congregation comes up and ties a knot in the "ties" and ties a prayer for that person into the quilt. That way the person has all the prayers with them all the time!
